The discovery that changed everything
Why the chiropractors went nuts and came after Dr. Jutkowitz
The short story is that in the mid 1980's Dr. Jutkowitz had figured out how and why chiropractors and other doing manipulation sometimes caused strokes and other bad things to bodies both, structurally and with organs – heart, lungs, digestive, etc.
Dr. Jutkowitz also figured out how to avoid those things and how to fix them when they happened in life as well as because of treatment that was not what was needed.
The chiropractors were not interested in that. They just thought that acknowledging that it happened because of the manipulations would lead to a slew of law suits and bankrupt the profession. The point was made that the medical doctors acknowledged that the largest cause of death in the US was medical care (not just mistakes, even normal medical care) and they were doing fine but the chiros were in a panic so they came after Dr. Jutkowitz.
On appeal the only things that stuck were that meningeal releases were not taught in chiropractic schools and so not part of chiropractic practice (silly but that was in the history of the chiropractic law in Connecticut) and too many x-rays. The fact is that a CAT scan has more than 100 times the radiation of the x-rays Dr. Jutkowitz was taking and, the x-rays of the entire spine in sitting and standing positions invalidated every chiropractic theory at that time and even currently.
